Ponda Fort or Shivaji Fort is a popular tour destination in Goa which is placed in north Goa (ponda taluka). It was built by Muslim ruler Adil Shah but captured by Portuguese ruler in 1549. This fort again captured by Shivaji Hindu ruler from Portuguese ruler in 1975. Now this fort condition is very well and it also renovated by Goa Government. It is good picnic place in for students and tourists where people can visit old fort, well developed park and red colour painted fort which also has a statue of the King Shivaji Marat
How can reach:- Ponda is a taluka in north Goa which is good connected to national highway – 17. Its distance from capital Panaji city is 31 kilometers in north direction. Its nearest local railway station is Karmali while Margaon is the main junction which is only 18 kilometers far. It is alos can access from Dabolim airport which distance is only 30 kilometers. This airport connects to Goa to all airport of the India along with some foreign countries.
Goa tour packages are good plan to visit its historical forts which were built by Hindu, Muslim and Portuguese rulers. Goa state’s most famous forts are Reis Magos (good condition), Corjuem, Aguada (ruin condition), Anjediva, Tiracol (converted into hotel), Cabo Raj Niwas (residence of the Governor of the state) and Chapora Fort.
